Vegan
Cycling Holidays

New for the 2022 season onwards, we are offering small-scale all-vegan cycling holidays.

Much loved by local hero Alejandro Valverde and other world tour professionals, our beautiful valley regularly hosts La Vuelta a España on its famously hilly and winding roads.

Whether you're a roadie or prefer gravel and mountain bike, there's plenty here for you to enjoy.

Come and spend some time with us!

At Caza Green Cuizine you will experience award-winning hospitality in our traditional Albaida style Spanish town house at the edge of the historic centre of Cocentaina, with full vegan board (breakfast, and dinner) provided as standard. We are fully licensed Vivienda Turistica located in the heart of the old town, catering fully and exclusively for vegans (or aspirant vegans) who are keen to enjoy an energetic cycling holiday in a lovely area of Spain either as individuals or in small groups of up to 4 people. We are able to cater for all manner of dietary requirements except for nut allergies (sorry, we eat lots of nuts!). Gluten-free food is a particular speciality since Jon is gluten intolerant.  We are also LGBTQ+ friendly.

What you will find when you get here

Cocentaina is a small market town (pop. 11,500) nestled below a prominent and distinctive castle tower in the lush green valley of El Comtat, just down the road from Alcoy. All shops and amentities are within walking distance of our house, including an excellent local bike shop only 150m away. Cocentaina is a frequent venue for La Vuelta a España, most recently in 2021 and 2019. Famously hilly and winding, the local roads are wide, well-surfaced and largely traffic-free.  There are also 3 mixed-surface 'Via Verdes' (old railway paths) nearby and the town sits astride Stage 25 of the Eurovelo 8 long distance cycling route.  Although it's a popular playground for motorcyclists we generally see more cyclists than 'oil' and the Pro teams are often in the area for training. We have a rich mix of flat(ish), hilly and very hilly routes, and the scope for road cycling, gravel and mountain biking is almost limitless.

Recommended ability/experience level

The terrain in this area of Spain is quite "lumpy" and can be physically demanding, even for experienced riders. To get the most out of your holiday you will need to be quite fit and have experience of riding between 60 and 100km per day.  You should be comfortable on undulating terrain and happy to ride up a series of steep (8-10%) and occasionally steeper hills.  For best enjoyment you should be pushing out at least 100W and ideally over 120W.  These figures are based on a 70kg rider, so you need more power if you're heavier, less if you're lighter.  Easier rides are available but the choice is much more limited that it is on the coast, for example.  Knowledge of, and equipment for, puncture repair by the roadside is of course essential, although we have not suffered a single puncture in 3 years of riding in this area.

Holiday Dates 2022/23

Here are the available holiday dates for 2022 and 2023:

Covid Update

Here at Casa Green Cuizine we constantly monitor the guidance on Covid and how it affects our cycling holidays. We will be cheek by jowl in the house and in some cases sharing accommodation, so we would all expect sensible precautions to be applied.  We would therefore like to advise:

  • We are both fully vaccinated (2 jabs + booster) and have our European Certificates of Vaccination.

  • We strongly recommend that people coming on holiday be vaccinated to the same degree.

  • It is possible for vaccinated people to catch Covid, so we ask everyone to take a lateral flow test one day prior to travel, just to be sure.
